How to earn more Grid Rewards

Grid Rewards Earnings

The beauty of Grid Rewards is that you can feel like a hero without having to lead an action-packed or even strenuous life. In this article, we want to focus on how easy your heroic contribution to the grid balance actually is, how nice it feels to suddenly receive rewards and, most importantly, how you can increase them.

You can practically earn money while you sleep

Imagine waking up in the morning, looking sleepily through your Tibber app and suddenly being wide awake. Because, BAM (!), instead of charging your beloved electric car only costing you money yesterday, you've also earned some extra cash overnight. Obviously, during your blissful slumber, there were one or more events that required your car to jump in and prop up the grid. These are times of significant energy shortages and surpluses.

How to increase the possibility for more Grid Rewards

In view of this not only green but also easy made money, you are probably asking yourself a few questions. Perhaps one in particular: ‘How can I increase the amount of my Grid Rewards?’ (We can read minds, can't we?) Well, the simple answer is by keeping your car plugged in when it's at home and having Smart Charging enabled. The interface of our Grid Rewards screen makes it easy for you to remember to do both. A green checkmark appears in front of these two little to-dos.

Of course, it would be even better if you knew exactly when and how many occasions might pop up where the heroic efforts of your car and its battery are required. In a perfect world, we would offer you this knowledge. However, a surplus in the electricity grid is usually characterized by the fact that it was not foreseeable. Predictability is therefore not exactly its hallmark.

Simple tricks pay off

When you are supporting the grid, it will be displayed in the Tibber app as shown below. Your support can last from a few minutes to a few hours. So you cannot rely on fixed times and rewards derived from them. A certain amount of chance is unavoidable. However, as is often the case in life, there are a few simple tricks you can use to increase your chances of success.

Logically, the longer your Smart Charging period, the greater your chance of benefiting from Grid Rewards. If you don't use your car for the same short trips or daily commuting alone, it is worth setting the desired charge level a little higher. You should also switch off recurring daily departure times if your car is parked in the garage for days on end anyway. Instead, why not only setting a departure time when you know your car is definitely needed at a certain time? Having your car more connected will never increase your costs, but will definitely lead to more rewards.

And just in case it isn’t entirely clear: Your departure time is still the deciding factor by which Smart Charging schedules your charging process. So your car will always be ready at the desired time, while our algorithm finds a way to get the best out of Smart Charging and Grid Rewards for you until then. You see, earning more won’t cost you more. Just be a little mindful when making your Smart Charging settings is all there is. Drive safely and earn steadily, Grid Hero!
