Appendix 1: Data act product information - Pulse

Pulse devices (HAN, P1, and KM models)

Introduction

This document sets out the principles governing the generation, processing, and storage of data by Pulse devices (HAN, P1, and KM models) in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/2854 on harmonised rules on fair access to and use of data (the “Data Act”).

Pulse HAN, P1, and KM are internet connected devices designed to monitor real-time household electricity consumption and grid quality.

The data generated by these devices is processed to:

  • provide users with accurate insights into their energy consumption and grid conditions,

  • enable integration with smart home systems, and

  • facilitate the provision of advanced energy services through the Pulse application and associated platforms.

This policy explains how such data is handled in compliance with the Data Act, including the scope of data collection, the purposes of processing, and the rights afforded to users.

Type, Format, and Estimated Volume of Product Data

  • Type of data generated:

    • Consumption (W) – current power usage

    • Production (W) – net power produced (if applicable)

    • Voltage per phase (Voltage1, Voltage2, Voltage3)

    • Current per phase (Current1, Current2, Current3)

    • Total consumption (kWh) – cumulative energy consumed

    • Last hour consumption (kWh)

    • Total production (kWh)

    • Last hour production (kWh)

    • Grid voltage

    • WiFi signal strength

  • Format of data:

    • JSON

  • Estimated data volume:

    • Average of 800kB–10 MB per day per device, depending on the sampling interval.

    • Data frequency is typically per second to per minute depending on configuration.

    • Over a year, this may total approximately 285–3650 MB of raw measurement data.

Pulse devices (Bridge, IR, and CT models)

Introduction

This document sets out the principles governing the generation, processing, and storage of data by Pulse devices (Bridge, IR, and CT models) in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/2854 on harmonised rules on fair access to and use of data (the “Data Act”).

Pulse IR and CT are devices designed to monitor/measure real-time household electricity consumption and grid quality. These devices are indirectly connected to the internet through the Pulse Bridge. Data collected by the IR/CT devices is transmitted to the Pulse Bridge, which provides connectivity to the internet.

In addition to receiving data from Pulse IR and CT, the Pulse Bridge is capable of connecting to other energy assets, such as inverters and batteries, with support for additional types of equipment planned for future updates.

The data generated and transmitted via Pulse devices is processed to:

  • provide users with accurate insights into their energy consumption and grid conditions,

  • enable integration with connected energy systems, and

  • facilitate the provision of advanced energy services through the Pulse application and associated platforms.

This policy explains how such data is handled in compliance with the Data Act, including the scope of data collection, the purposes of processing, and the rights afforded to users.

Type, Format, and Estimated Volume of Product Data

  • Type of data generated from Pulse IR/CT:

    • Consumption (W) – current power usage

    • Production (W) – net power produced (if applicable)

    • Voltage per phase (Voltage1, Voltage2, Voltage3)

    • Current per phase (Current1, Current2, Current3)

    • Total consumption (kWh) – cumulative energy consumed

    • Last hour consumption (kWh)

    • Total production (kWh)

    • Last hour production (kWh)

    • Radio signal strength (RSSI)

  • Type of data generated from other connected devices (such as inverters and batteries):

    • Consumption (W) – current power usage

    • Production (W) – net power produced (if applicable)

    • Voltage per phase (Voltage1, Voltage2, Voltage3)

    • Current per phase (Current1, Current2, Current3)

    • System time

    • Device states such as ON/OFF

    • Charging schedules

    • Device descriptions such as model number, firmware versions and serial numbers

    • Operating mode

    • Battery statuses such as capacity, voltage, current, power, state of charge.

  • Type of data generated from Bridge:

    • Grid voltage

    • Over a year, this may total approximately 285–3650 MB of raw measurement data.

Information common for all Pulse models

Continuous and Real-Time Data Generation

  • Tibber Pulse is capable of continuous monitoring of electricity usage.

  • Data can be generated and transmitted in real-time (near-second resolution) if configured.

  • Data transfer to Tibber’s cloud services typically occurs at regular short intervals (seconds to minutes).

Data Storage (On-Device and Remote)

  • On-device storage:

    • The Pulse device has limited local buffering capacity. It only buffers up to 5kB of data before sending it to the cloud. This data is only kept in a temporary storage and will be lost if the unit is powered off.

  • Remote server storage:

    • Measurement data is transmitted securely to Tibber’s cloud servers.

    • Retention period:

      • Consumption data: retained for as long as the customer maintains a Tibber account, and for up to 3 years after contract termination (to comply with legal and regulatory obligations, unless deleted earlier at user request).

      • Diagnostic logs: retained for up to 6 months for troubleshooting and service improvement.

User Access, Retrieval, and Erasure of Data

  • Access:

    • Users can view real-time and historical consumption data via the Tibber App.

    • Data can be exported in common formats (e.g., CSV/Excel) by contacting us at hello@tibber.com or through Tibber’s API (developer.tibber.com).

  • Retrieval:

    • Full datasets are retrievable upon request by contacting Tibber at hello@tibber.com or via the Tibber API (developer.tibber.com).

  • Erasure:

    • Users may request deletion of data through the account settings or by contacting Tibber support. This applies when Tibber does not have a legal obligation or an overriding legitimate interest to retain your personal data.

    • Deletion will be performed in line with Tibber’s privacy policy and legal obligations.

    • Data stored locally on the device is overwritten automatically when buffers are filled. And are not kept if the device is disconnected from power.

  • Terms of Use and Quality of Service:

    • Data collection and processing follow Tibber’s Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.

    • Quality of service is ensured via encrypted transfers, GDPR compliance, and system availability targets.

    • Users retain rights under the EU Data Act and GDPR, including portability, access, and erasure rights.
